Goalkeeper Glove Guide

Goalkeeper Glove Guide

The right goalkeeper glove depends on fit, glove cut, grip, protection and how often it will be used. This guide gives parents, players and coaches a clear starting point.

1. Get the Size Right

Measure around the widest part of the hand, excluding the thumb, and compare the measurement with the sizing information on the individual glove. A glove should fit securely while still allowing full finger movement.

See the Football Size Guide for our general sizing guidance.

2. Choose the Glove Cut

Common goalkeeper glove cuts include Negative, Roll Finger and Hybrid styles. Negative cuts usually give a closer feel around the fingers, Roll Finger designs provide more latex contact around the fingers, and Hybrid gloves combine features from more than one cut. The best choice is the fit and feel the goalkeeper prefers.

3. Finger Protection or No Finger Protection?

Some gloves include removable or built-in finger protection, while others prioritise flexibility and feel. Younger or developing goalkeepers may value additional protection, while other players prefer the greater freedom of a glove without finger spines.

4. Training vs Match Gloves

Training gloves should balance durability, comfort and value for repeated sessions. Match gloves generally place greater emphasis on grip and performance. Many goalkeepers use separate pairs for training and matches to preserve their preferred match gloves.

5. Junior vs Adult

Do not choose solely by age. Hand measurement and the fit of the specific model are more reliable. If a junior goalkeeper is between sizes, check the individual product guidance before ordering.
